Emily:

Hello? Hi there and welcome to the darn good leadership podcast. This show was all about being a strong and effective leader. One that can make positive impacts on your teams and communities., I'm your host, Emily Holting. And in today's episode, we're discussing the why behind darn good leadership. And when I say that I'm referring to this podcast, why did I start I've done about five episodes now so i thought it was about time we touched base on this topic To understand why i created this podcast requires you to understand a little bit more about Everyone has different items that motivate them when it comes to work. For some it's pay others convenience like working from home or commute distance. Some look for growth opportunities. And for me, it really boils down to one thing. The ability to create positive impacts on people, teams and the environments they work in. If I have the ability to do that, then I am immensely motivated, happy, and ready to kick ass. Now when I first started my career, the positive impacts I was able to make were considerably smaller but still very fulfilling and gave me a sense of pride in my work that I began to crave. Over the years I've pushed myself to grow and I've taken on more responsibility. And with that, the expectations I have of myself have also grown. Where I want it to now create massive positive impact. And at some point I realized that creating impact at this broader scale. Was not going to happen by myself and something I could not accomplish I could only help so many people or teams. I could only focus on so many areas of improvement at a time. And so the necessity of a building. Fantastic teams and finding incredible talent who shared my same desire was really key. As I've stated in previous episodes, I have a fabulous team that I work with and we have created some just wonderful things together and are consistently in the midst of the next iteration of improvement for our workplace. However, I wondered if building a community of amazing talent who shared my same desire was also possible. So in that moment, my mission for this podcast was formed. And the mission is this. To create a community of strong leaders who support each other to positively impact their teams work Environments and the world After forming a clear mission for this podcast. The next step was naming it. I held many brainstorming sessions. I asked some of my team for advice. I got feedback from family and friends. And I finally came up with. The darn good leadership podcast So let's talk about the word leadership. What may for spring to mind might be roles that are more authoritative, like a boss, a manager, an executive, a CEO. But the truth is anyone can be a leader. It's not a role you possess or hired into, and it's not a skill or genetic trait you were born with or without. This show is meant for any leader, regardless of where they are on their leadership journey. The definition of leadership is to influence. Inspire. And help others become the best version of themselves. Uh, building their skills and achieving goals with them along the way. The other thing that leadership requires is empowering others to become effective leaders as well. And this goes back to where I was having that epiphany moment that if I wanted to create massive positive change, no way could I do that alone, so here I am with this podcast on a journey to build an incredible community of leaders. Besides positive impacts. I've created this podcast to help hold myself accountable for consistently striving to be a darn good If you're hosting a podcast with this name, there is an implied responsibility to model good leadership behavior myself. Look, no one is a perfect leader. Everyone has good days and bad days, but it's what you do with those days that matter and the days that are good. I try to model those more in the days that are bad. I do my very best to own those things and discuss them with my team. The point is modeling good leadership doesn't mean being a perfect leader because that is impossible to do. Good leaders, practice extreme ownership. And they are continuous learners. Learn from your own mistakes. Also learn from others. What good behaviors and practices do you see that you also want to possess or bad behavior and practices? Do you see that you want to avoid. Also learn to unlearn things that no longer in addition to positive impacts and accountability. I created this podcast because I believe communities can really change the world. There were so many times in my career that I have been the only one. And my first shop, I was the only employee under 30. And then working in technology and engineering, there have been countless times that I've been the only woman in a meeting. I've also been the only person at my workplace that has my job title at three different companies. But i was able to be effective and i was able to grow and develop my skills because i found incredible communities to connect Having support thought partners, sharing best practices. It makes you better at what you do. It pushes you to learn and grow. It gives you a sounding board and feedback. Good leadership can be contagious. It can be inspiring. And it can bring up the very best in the people around you. My goal is to help foster and grow that through this podcast. I've worked with various teams and communities and different environments. I've worked in fortune 500 companies, startups and my current company is global in over seven countries and time zones. Through my experiences, I'm consistently striving to do better and learn more. And as I'm on my journey, I want to share the things I'm discovering with you. I want to share amazing fines, the struggles, the victories, the lessons learned. And my ultimate goal is to make this show interactive and create an engaged community where each of you have an opportunity to not only listen, but to give feedback on your best practices, where you need support, what ideas you have and the things that are working for you and the things that you need help on. This, we'll take some time and persistence to get to that. But if finance. As you get to know me when i have a mission i am nothing if not persistent in my quest So if you've been curious as to why the darn good leadership podcast exists. It's because I believe together we can create positive impacts together. We can help hold each other accountable. Together we can model good behaviors and own our mistakes. Together, we can commit to continuous learning. And together we can cover more ground than we would alone. Thanks so much for joining today. I hope understanding my why for this podcast makes you more excited to keep tuning in. And seeing what opportunities and change we can create together on this journey.
